Why so Blue?

The moment we opens our eyes, the world gets filled with different colors. It’s so fascinating that every color has specific characteristics that influence our moods, behavior and even lifestyle. Blue as we all know is a healing and merciful color. It signifies emotions, inspiration, devotion and truth. Strolling through the streets of the old town of Jodhpur, you will find many houses painted in blue. Though it’s sets a wonderful example of vivid colors to the city’s everyday life very few people get to understand why Jodhpur is known as “the blue city” . If sources are to be believed, it’s said that under the centuries old protection of Mehrangarh Fort, many of the houses were painted blue on the orders of the city’s founder, Rao Jodha. Interesting!

The old city streets provides the perfect backdrop for capturing the wonderful blue hues allowing an insight into moments of everyday Rajasthani culture.

  1. Those are beautiful, beautiful doors. Rajasthani architecture is quite fascinating, especially those doors. I would not mind having one of them adorn my future home. One of my former colleagues had an intricately carved door shipped to her place in Delhi and boy does it do its job 🙂
